Curriculum Overview

Our vision statement says 'Learning is a way of life.' We therefore place great emphasis on children developing the skills and qualities of independent learners, such as enquiring minds, creativity, analytical skills, perseverance, teamwork, resourcefulness and commitment. Whilst a great deal of work goes into providing a safe and stimulating environment for children to learn in, we also strive hard to provide the right blend of support and challenge appropriate to the needs of each child. Our children do not learn in isolation, but together, in partnership both with their peers and with children of different ages. We place a high priority on giving children a firm grounding in the basics, but our curriculum extends well beyond the 'traditional' subjects. We have an extensive enrichment programme, which adds to children's enjoyment of learning.

Our EYFS curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundations Stage Profile. Progession is mapped out to ensure that the chidlren are provided with the knowledge and understanding they need as they begin Year 1. You can find out more about the Early Years curriculum here.

The Midsomer Norton Curriculum for Years 1 to 6 is based on the National Curriculum 2014 and shaped by our curriculum drivers: Culture and Community.

Our curriculum intent statement provides detail about how our curriculum is structured.

In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 the curriculum is arranged in a two year cycle.

2020/2021 Year B
2021/2022 Year A
2022/2023 Year B
2023/2024 Year A
