PSHCE stands for Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education.
At Midsomer Norton Primary School, we seek to equip our children with the skills and attributes to thrive in life and to make a positive contribution to society.
Our PSHCE scheme is designed to develop British values, defined by OFSTED as:
The scheme also includes SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning), supports our school values and the development of positive learning behaviours. We have identified 6 attributes or 'learning behaviours' that we wish to foster attaching them all to a 'gem power'.
The learning behaviours are:
Diamond Power - being independent
Ruby Power - supporting others
Emerald Power - being ambitious
Sapphire Power - being resilient
Amethyst Power - keeping focused
Topaz Power - working together

Promoting good mental health is an important part of PSHCE. In class and assemblies, we help children understand the importance of looking after our own mental health and supporting others. To see a very useful presentation which shows the kind of language and approach we use with children when discussing mental health click here: Mind Moose presentation.
We are proud to be part of the Sugar Smart Campaign and have pledged to reduce the amount of sugar we eat through displays, workshops, assemblies and by making our lunchboxes less sugary.
