Our meals are provided by our acadmey trust and are freshly cooked every day at Writhlington Secondary School.

Our meals meet government nutritional standards for school meals ensuring that all meals are healthy and offer a balanced diet for the children. Please click here for a copy of the menu.

Research has shown that children who eat a healthy balanced diet tend to perform better at school and that only 1% of packed lunches comply with the nutritional standards for school lunches.

 

Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM)

ALL children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a Universal Free School Meal everyday regardless of family income or circumstances.

Children in Years 3-6 will be required to pay £2.60 per day. Nursery childrens lunches are charged at £2.20 per day. 

Pupil Premium & Free School Meals

Some children are entitled to Benefit related Free School Meals, if you are entitled to these you will also attract additional funding into the school via Pupil Premium. All children entitled to Pupil Premium recieve help with their school uniform consisting of 2 School jumpers & 3 polo Tshirts per academic year along with discounted rates for clubs and trips throughout their time in primary school. Some Nursery children also qualify for benefit related Free School Meals.


Qualifying benefits for Free School Meals

  • Income Support
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit, without any Working Tax Credit, and an annual household income (as assessed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs) that is not more than £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit Run-on which is only paid for 4 weeks after you STOP qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • During the initial roll out of the benefit – Universal Credit

How to Register

  • Call the Free School Meals helpline on 01225 394317 to make a telephone registration. We will need you to tell us your National Insurance Number or National Asylum Seeker Support Number when you call.
  • Download and complete the Free School Meals Registration Form (Word doc available here) and email it back to us at freeschoolmeals@bathnes.gov.uk
  • Print and complete the Free School Meals Registration Form.pdf (40 KB) and post it to: Free School Meals Team, Children’s Service Finance, PO Box 25, Riverside, Temple Street, Keynsham, Bristol, BS31 1DN
  • Please note that the Local Authority will check your initial and on-going eligibility to qualifying benefits on your behalf using the DFE online Free School Meal Eligibility Checking Service. Your National Insurance or National Asylum Seeker Support Number and Date of Birth must be completed clearly and accurately.
